Welcome to Mas du Diable.com, a journal of our efforts to live a life closer to the land; to grow our own food, make best use of it in the kitchen, save and share heirloom seeds and learn the rural skills needed to live on and take care of this land. |

Mas du Diable Mas du Diable is our home; a 12th century farmstead in the Cévennes Mountains in the Languedoc region of Southern France. It is a pretty special place, perched high up in a mountain crevice looking out over the valley with mountains as far as the eye can see. Read more about Mas du Diable. |

About Us We came to live in the Cévennes in November 2003, to embark on an adventure that would take us closer to the land. Rachel with her passion for bushcraft and wood and Laura with her obsession for growing anything edible and dragging it back to the kitchen. Read more about us |

Kitchen Gardens We grow our own vegetables, fruit, nuts and herbs, organically, on an 8 hectare site. The kitchen gardens use only a small part of the land and include; orchards, a terraced kitchen garden, a 50ft polytunnel, a vegetable patch and a herbage. Read more about our Gardens. |

Rural Skills The exciting thing about this place is that we have loads of stone and timber to work with. Our steep land is made arable by stone terraces so the most important thing for us is to be able to repair and build dry stone walls. Read more about Dry Stone Walling |

Recipes Cooking with our own homegrown produce makes us really appreciate fresh seasonal ingredients. To do justice to our year round harvest we find inspiration from all over the world and post the recipes for our tried and tested favourites. Search the site to find recipes. |

Seed Saving Saving seeds is an important part of the growing process. We save the seeds of our favourite varieties and make as many as we can available to SWAP. We also produce seed as volunteer seed guardians for Association Kokopelli and are members of the Heritage Seed Library. |
